Experience Elk Rut

 *Semi-Private*

Come witness the raw & real drama of rut for yourself!  Get up close & personal with the bulls as they perform their long list of unique mating rituals, the most impressive of which is their breathtaking bugle. Rut is obnoxious, aggressive, bizarre, hilarious & beautiful - you have to see it to believe it.

We offer 2 ways to experience the magic of rut, with carefully selected times to work with the elk's natural schedule & coincide with their most active times of day.

1.  7am-9am - Look & Listen Morning Observation

Don't let the early hour scare you  - this time of day is 100% Pure Magic!  Bring your coffee & a lawnchair, and prepare to be serenaded by the bulls first bugles of the day.  We will greet you upon arrival, and guide you to one of our prime, fence-side observation spots, which will bring you within a few yards of all the action.   With a long list of unique sights & sounds only possible this early on a Fall day, you will feel like you've escaped reality.  Max. 10 people per morning.  You may be sharing the farm with others, but with plently of space to observe,  you will feel like you're here alone.

2. 4pm to 6pm - Breathtaking Bugles Evening Walk

Fully guided by Katie, one of the owners & operators of Narrows Edge Elk, this visit will get you closer, and teach you more about the elk rut than you ever thought possible.  Throughout the 1.7km walk, past multiple breeding pastures,  Katie will share her knowledge of this process, highlighting the bull's odd & often humorous rut behaviours, making this experience both entertaining and educational.

Max. 10 people per walk.   You may be sharing this experience with a small group of others.

*Prefer not to walk?  Look & Listen observers are welcome to book this time slot too.

  • IMPORTANT INFO - READ BEFORE BOOKING

Our 1.7km Perimeter Trail is not difficult to navigate, but does have areas of rough terrain and may be muddy.  Wear weather appropriate clothing & footwear.  Guests not wearing trail appropriate, closed toe footwear will not be permitted access to trail. Trail is not stroller/wagon friendly.  Visitors must remain on the clearly marked trail at all times.

Elk views are guaranteed but we can't guarantee how close they will decide to come to the fence.  Calm, quiet conversations and walking at a slow, steady pace will  improve the experience for both you and the elk. Guests must remain 3' from fence at all times.

Yelling, calling, bugling at, or playing elk noises from a phone are considered harassment, and will stress the herd out.  Visitors engaging in this behaviour will be asked to leave.  Absolutely no pets allowed - the elk will not take kindly to them.

Due to our farm's strictly enforced biosecruty protocols, each group must check-in and check-out & provide the license plate numbers for any vehicles driven to farm.  A waiver/release will be required to be signed upon arrival for each visitor.

Don't forget your camera, & bring some binoculars in case the elk are playing shy.  Bug spray is highly recommended during warmer months.

We will email you a few days before your visit with important information & reminders.

  • REFUND POLICY

No Refunds.  Trail is open rain or shine. Unused Reservations can be redeemed for a future visit of equal value, pending availability.  Rescheduled visit date/time is at Narrows Edge Elk's discretion & must be pre-arranged in writing.  narrowsedgeelk@gmail.com
